SIERRA NEVADA
Agroforestry by Reselva
MORE THAN ONE MILLION TREES PLANTED
Agroforestry with a social component
For the last 6 years our partner Reselva has been operating in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia, developing a methodology for restoring deforested areas while fostering the socio-economic transition of local communities towards sustainable agroforestry. Let us present to you our methodology, the impact we have achieved so far and we how intend to scale up our model to an increasing number of growing Colombian ecoregions and beyond. They have planted more than one million trees in the last 5 years.
Our methodology
We strengthen local capacities for the sustainable production of native trees that serve the dual purpose of restoring forest ecosystems and trees that fulfil the dual purpose of restoring forest ecosystems and generating generate income through non-timber forest products.
We provide technical assistance and agricultural inputs to local farmers so that they can receive or produce seedlings, plant, maintain and harvest a combination of trees and crops on their land.
We ensure that both the tree production process and the transplanting and maintenance of trees are carried out by the participants faithfully and according to our methodology.
We recognize participants a monetary compensation for each tree planted following our methodology.
We provide tree planting certificates, GPS coordinates, and images of each tree to those organizations that seek to offset their footprint, strengthen their ESG profile, and show their corporate social responsibility.
